Sony cuts down PS3 manufacturing price upto 70%

All those who were longing to get their hands on the PS3 have something to cheer about after long.
Sony released its quarterly sales report for the PS3 which showed that the sales had lowered down to 1.1 million units compared to the 1.6 million units in the previous quarter. But this descent in the ps3 sales is surprising as Sony has already pulled up the socks of its manufacturing house, especially ps3 division.

When the Sony CFO, Nobuyuki Oneda was asked by an analyst about the exact figure with respect to the reduction in the manufacturing cost since it started making the PS3s, Oneda chose to give vague reply by simply stating that the cost reductions since the introduction of PS3 was very substantial and on time. He further made it clear that Sony doesn't disclose the exact figures of what the cost reduction was since the last two years, but it was according to the plan.

But then, he could not keep it in for long. Finally Oneda tossed a figure and said," About 70 percent, roughly speaking".

Recently, Sony's CEO Sir Howard Stringer was quoted as saying,"I lose money for every playstation I make - How's that for logic?" This came in response to Activision's cry to Sony for reduce PS3 prices. Moreover, Sony's recently established division called Sony Computer Entertainment lost about 416 million dollars last quarter which is even more than the Sony's overall loss of 390 million!

So where do these two facts lead us to? Yes, I know what you're thinking right now.
Let us all pray that Oneda was talking about the manufacturing costs for the PS3s that Sony is making RIGHT NOW, and not the ones they were manufacturing in the previous quarter. So all of this leads us to yet another slimmer version of Sony's best console till date, a SLIM PLAYSTATION 3, which has already been widely talked about and rumored. This makes us to believe that most probably Sony might have done away with it's much loved BLU RAY technology in the newer, slimmer and cheaper or should I say, cost-effective PS3s, which may have caused the reduction in manufacturing costs possible.
The countdown to a cheaper and slimmer PS3 has already begun!

Is GOD OF WAR III good enough to shoot up the PS3 sales?

Almost an year ago, I heard sony CEO speaking of some game they were to launch for ps3, that was supposed to be using all that is a ps3 hardware is capable of and suck all its juice to provide with the best gaming experience ever to the ps3 users! When I heard that, the only thing that flashed through my mind and I whispered to myself: GOD OF WAR III!!!

Let's all accept the fact, that God of War series is the best so far on the playstation console on an overall basis. Final Fantasy is a strong contender, no doubt. But this beastly series has no compare whatsoever.

God Of War III is scheduled to be released in March 2010. It was to be released in November this year, but recently sony announced the news about its delay. You can already see many videos and screens of the third installment everywhere on the internet. And each one, just leaves us wanting for more. I am sure all God of War fans are for anything new to be heard or seen about God Of War III.

I always told my gamer cousins Tweakguy and Techsneak that God of War III would be a very nice bet for sony people to shoot the sales of PS3 up by leaps and bounds. And today while I was browsing n4g, I came across one blogger who feels the same and seems to support my theory of relativity between God of War III and the playstation 3. Here's what I found:

" It's true, God of War III will be a title worthy enough to cause the sale of numerous PS3's, Sony is on to something big here, and I'll outline exactly why."
on BADASSGAMERBLOG

Now this is really getting interesting. God of War III has already been hyped or I must say labeled as the best game to be on the ps3 platform. And this is not just hype, we all have seen what it would look like. And it is nothing but a jawdropping game with everything under your control. Pandora's box is just waiting to be opened and God of War in his newest form is getting ready to explode on all ps3 consoles and take the console gaming to an all new and unexperienced level that would rocket launch the ps3 demands alongways too.

My latest guess is that sony will announce a slimmer ps3 along with the launch of god of war III in addition to backwards compatibility with ps2 and a considerable price-drop.

All these reasons
should be more than
enough for sony to see the playstation 3 sales shooting up, blasting the roof away and tearing open the sky like Kratos did it to the PS2, God of War way! Waddayasay...

Splinter Cell: Conviction - Another Addition To A Great Stealth with Style Game Series

All the Splinter Cell series fans have something to cheer about after a long long wait. Splinter Cell: Conviction is the latest installment in the Tom Clancy's most popular series. Yeah! Sam Fisher is Back with a Bang...A big bang indeed!

Ubisoft, the game developer for Splinter Cell series, recently revealed a few technical details with respect to the latest Splinter Cell Edition.

Our favorite hero, Sam Fisher is back in this yet another much awaited game in the splinter cell series after Double Agent which was a great hit, no doubt. Scheduled to be released in October this year, Splinter Cell: Conviction is said to be having some new engine details and some fresh new features.

The following conversation took place between PC Games Hardware and the Ubisoft:

PCGH: Why did you choose to use Unreal Engine 2 instead of Unreal Engine 3?

Ubisoft: We're using our own engine, LEAD, which is an evolution from the engine used in SCCT(Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory).

PCGH: What are the strengths of this engine?

Ubisoft: • Amazing lighting engine, all lights are dynamic in the maps and can be dynamically activated and deactivated.
• A fully dynamic environment
• Latest enhancements, such as ambient occlusion or destructible environment
• Powerful to display a large amount of objects on screen
• Crowd management, even if not core to the gameplay

Up to now very few videos and screenshots of Splinter Cell: Conviction can be seen around. A very bad news for gamers on PC is that Splinter Cell: Conviction will be released only for the Xbox 360 exclusively at first.

Very little information regarding the content of the game. Sam Fisher is on a hunt for the murderers of his daughter. In the course of his path, he happens to be at several places with Malta and Washington among them. And hence, the story will be much more personal and enthralling for Fisher this time. Speculations are on the rise for a multiplayer mode to be integrated with this installment, but not much information is out yet on this subject.

Maybe they don't want to create much hype about it and want to keep it under wraps. And that is the native Sam Fisher Style...Stealth with Style!

For more information you may check out the teaser website.

Below is the E3 trailer of the same:

Ubisoft also mentioned in the end that this game will blow you away!
So let us all wait and watch for yet another action packed Splinter Cell thriller.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Review for PS2

I just don't understand when will these movie based game makers and developers understand or pay heed to the cry of the gamers and the movie fans who play these games and start making games based on movies, that make some sense.
Transformers the game was something better than the sequel to the game that was just launched on 18th of june 2009. The sequel is just another rushed crap in the ps2 series of games.

They are insulting the console and questioning its ability. They should be selling these rubbish works of theirs for free.

I was so excited about this game after playing the first one. Though it wasn't so good as they would have done using such a nice concept as transformers. The movie makers really did justice to the concept. But the game makers are far behind in the race.

Some of the comparisons I would like to do before labeling this game a total failure on ps2:
- The previous installment had a free roaming theme where you could roam around the city at your will and transform yourselves just by the click of a button. As simple as that. But here in the sequel, you are not allowed to do that. You are just a slave and have to play as commanded by optimus prime. Moreover you cannot move here and there beyond an area which is isolated using obstacles like fire.
- You cannot climb on buildings as you used to in the first part of the game. It was so much fun.
- Graphics leave you with so much to be desired. Absolute let down this game is in terms of graphics. The draw distance is so less, that if you are on top of a building, you won't see a bridge half a mile away.
- Somethings are good compared to the first one. You have special powers which allow transformers to unleash hell on the decepticons. Similar to the God of War concept where you can use magic powers only upto a certain limit until that blue bar of magic lasts.
- You will find countless bugs in the game as you move around. Come on, seeing bugs on playstation 2 feels so much awkward. PC is fine, but on PS2!?
Man o man, this game was a total crap and a complete let down for all, the ps2 gamers as well as the transformers fans. When will these money hungry people stop thinking of their own and start thinking about their customers? If they think they're going to get a huge publicity by releasing the games before the launch of the movie, then they are probably badly mistaken! With such bad game being released, no one would want to leave their homes and watch such pathetic movie. Don't abuse such a great concept and don't play around with such great heroes, please, for God's sake!
Just one word, don't buy this game at any cost unless it's free.(I'd say don't even do that, coz if someone watches you playing that, you won't experience any big embarassment in your entire life!)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but why the revenge on PS2!
They are really making it bad for ps2 nowadays, coz I played ghostbusters video game for ps2 and it was no good either. It is pretty obvious when you start these games, that the developers are not putting any effort to creat a good gaming experience for the ps2 owners. All appears to be a rushed crap all the way.
No one wants to make games for PS2 now, which is really a sad thing for the people in India.
PS3 is not something which would be welcomed into the Indian living rooms at a common level in current times. HD technology is far expensive for the people here. BLU RAY is a thing of the future. So, PS2 is still the king of games and the gaming world in India. Let's keep hoping for the best and look forward to better games being made putting this transformers edition somewhere in the closet where you can't reach and enjoy playing the games that made history on PS2!

Max Payne 3 - Coming Soon!!!

I have always been a hardcore fan of the Max Payne series and always wanted the developers to launch the third installment in the series. I guess my prayers are answered. So, its a reason enough to start my blog with this post.

Game Informer has displayed the artwork from Max Payne 3 on their July 2009 issue.

Take a look!

The main character, i.e. Max Payne has totally changed. You can look at the picture above. He looks more rugged, more violent and ready for some good bullet-time and shootdodging action!

Max Payne appears to be like Bruce Willis acting in DIE HARD 4.0 here.

I have never experienced the fun that I derived in Bullet-time and shootdodging while playing Max Payne. Let's see what this new installment has to offer apart from those features.

The looks would really kill, and if that wasn't enough, you can zoom into the tagline below the Max Payne 3 title, which reads,"Rockstar's Dark Hero Reborn".

The game is said to be setup in an era that is 10 years post Max Payne 2, with the rumor mills churning out the below features already:

- Max Payne is now 10 years older(obviously) and balder as well.

- Max Payne is addicted to pain killers(dunno whether this will affect the gameplay positively or negatively)

- Sao Paulo, Brazil is the location where the third installment has been set up.

- Guess, it's not a journey through the night for Paynie anymore! The game will be set up GTA style, with day and night cycles very much along the gameplay, which is quite interesting(gives us a true feel of the game).

- The environment will be fully destructible. Hit anything and everything. Every action will have an equal and opposite reaction.

- Guess what...yeah...the BULLET TIME is much more advanced and more violent than ever!

- Online gamers have something in store for them. No details out yet.

- Max Payne 3 will be powered by the RAGE technology from the gaming giant Rockstar.

Here's what Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games said back in March,

"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game. This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

Though we are not sure about anything being announced by the game developers officially, we can expect some good clarification from the Game Informer issue hitting the shelves this July.

Max Payne 3 is said to be hitting PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in winter 2009.

So let's wait for our new and improved Bullet-Time Hero....MAX PAYNE.

The journey through the night...is about to end...to give way to a new dawn into the Max Payne series!

And we keep driving...into the night...I love these lines...let's see what we have in Max Payne 3...the song must continue...

Everyone is invited to comment on this.
